Making of musical instruments
For more than 350 years the economic development of Markneukirchen is closely linked with the making of musical instruments. It began with the making of stringed instruments, and was followed by plucked, woodwind and brass instrument-making. Additionally, necessary accessories like chin-rests, tailpieces, bows, machine heads, bridges, mouthpieces and cases are still made in and around Markneukirchen. Batons and drumsticks, musical toys, classical and modern percussion instruments as well as the Orff instruments also belong to the array of products. As a centre of German musical instrument making, Markneukirchen is well known in the world of music. The experiences of Vogtland master craftmen are continued and developed in about 100 companies. Therefore the instruments from the Vogtland are high quality treasures.
