Welcome
Embedded in an attractive green landscape of slopes and valleys, Markneukirchen with its 7200 inhabitants is situated in the heart of the Upper Vogtland. Beautiful villas with decorated façades and many sights, like the church St. Nicolai, the tower Bismarcksäule, the lovely marketplace, the music hall which was built in 1995, and rustic gastronomy that spoils guests and visitors with hospitality, create the special flair of the town.

Markneukirchen is also called "Saxony's Cremona", since it is renowned worldwide for violin-making has - in common with the small sunny town in the upper Italy - the violin-making to thank for its worldwide renown.

The rapid development of the music town, which became a town already in 1360, began in the middle of the 17th century, when 12 violin makers, mostly exiles from the neighbouring Bohemia, founded the first guild of violin makers in Germany in 1677. This was the cornerstone that led to the development of a trade and industry branch, which influenced the further development of the whole region. With it the cornerstone was put for a trade and industry branch, what decisively influenced the further development of the whole region.
